Model United Nations Project:
Model United Nations Project Reflection
Model United Nations is a complex educational activity where people discuss international issues to discover a step toward an ultimate solution. The UN is a group that communicates with all countries to get them to agree with other countries so that there can be peace in the world. The UN addresses issues through discussion rather than violence and is always trying to help suffering countries and the people in those countries. For our project we acted as the UN and delegates from multiple countries to talk about current issues in our world. The first issue we discussed was the refugee crises and ways in which each country is involved or can be involved. The country that I was assigned was Indonesia which I knew nothing about but was then able to learn about the country in every way possible. The second MUN conference we had was on the climate change global issue. Almost every country including mine gave a speech during the Model UN conference and it was interesting to learn about the other countries and their position on climate change as well as the refugee issue. The first MUN conference we had I did not speak a whole lot and I found myself not very involved. I then reflected on that and then for the second conference I was able to speak a lot more and I was much more involved.
During this project I was able to strengthen my skills for the most part. Going into this project and preparing for exhibition I was not thinking of giving my speech during the time that we had for exhibition. I thought I would be too nervous, and I definitely was, but when I had my chance I asked to be added to the speakers list and then I knew I was going to talk. I was proud that I kind of forced myself to tell my speech and it was great because I had said it and it took me only 2 minutes and then it was over. Once I had spoke I was relieved and I knew that I had done well. Although there were moments to celebrate, there were also times when I could have worked harder. After we had the MUN Conference I felt that this project should be over and I was not prepared to create more product. Once we were asked to create product for our all school exhibition I felt stressed and lazy. My partner and I created an infographic and a graph to go along with it, and it was not the best to my ability.I had only spent about 4 days working on it and I did not put 100% of effort into the product. The infographic ended up being small and not super informative. It was full of facts and not so much information we had gathered and put into our ow words. I wish I would have refined it more and put a little more time and effort into it. Next time I will refine to the best of my ability even if I am feeling lazy or overwhelmed because I know that it is very important to have perfect quality product when it comes time for exhibition.
This project was very engaging and there was not a time during this project that I was not interested in climate change. The most shocking thing about this project was hearing about people that don’t believe in climate change considering the science behind it and the things that people see daily. This is an insane global issue that we are seeing throughout our lives. Before this project I knew almost nothing of climate change effects on the world. I barely knew anything about this global issue itself. Climate change has already started to affect humans in so many ways. It is difficult to come to a conclusion on how people can stop climate change, especially when people don’t even think it is is real. I would like to implement ways in which I can help prevent climate change into my daily life. I would like to think green. Climate change is an extreme global issue and people need to pay more attention to this issue in order to save our planet including humanity. Another understanding I will take away from this is the ways in which we can convince and teach other about climate change and how it is real and they
