Project Reflection
For this project I was able to kind of choose my own adventure and really decide how I wanted my final product to look. The essential question that I wanted my video to address was, “What in your life makes you the happiest?” I showed what in mine does and what it looks like through my eyes. The inspiration behind it was my childhood, after reading and learning about different philosophies I realized that it was just simple for me. My philosophy consists of small things that I have the opportunity to do only once in awhile and they are the moments that give me the feeling of meaning. I am happy that each of us were able to choose our own direction for where we wanted to go with the project and how deep we each wanted to take it.
I think that I gained a lot of new insight about myself and what I truly think about my place on this earth. My thinking was definitely influenced by the studies that we did on philosophy and ethics. Everything I learned during this project was very deep, maybe too deep for me. When we as a class read the book, Into The Wild, I decided that I was not like Chris in the book who dropped everything in his life so that he could go to Alaska and figure out his meaning. I don’t think I would need to take some big trip or do something huge to really know what my purpose on earth is.
Now that I have a strong philosophy of my own I think it would be important to really live by it. I need to spend more time doing the small things that I love to do because I know how big of a difference it can make. I wonder if I am really doing what I should be and if I can really already know my own meaning but, I am comfortable with that and I think that happiness and meaning can be similar if you let it. I need to ask myself what can give me even more meaning and purpose, once I figure that out I can be more satisfied with the way I live everyday. This project sparked many questions for me throughout: How do I really know what my purpose is on earth? How can I give more meaning? Will I understand what my meaning was when I am on my deathbed?
